The Duchy of Cornwall
The BBC is carrying a story entitled MPs press Charles to quit Duchy. Now I don't pretend to understand the implications of capital gains tax but this story made me think, "hang on a sec".
Here is our future king who actively manages his private estates. (I'm sure he would be criticised if he left them to rot.)
He no doubt employs countless people to manage and maintain those estates.
His estates produce a range of organic/traditional foodstuffs which are very nice and which presumably have VAT on them.
He actively encourages his tenant farmers to be involved in organic farming, biodiveristy, good land management, recycling and conservation.
He voluntarily pays income tax on any income he makes (at 40%) and has increased the estates capital value (something which is held in trust for future heirs to the thone). He also makes his Accounts Reviews available online.
So tell me, what on earth is wrong with any of that?
Just sounds like sour grapes to me.

Granted, I'm one of the world more ignorant people, when it comes to "World News" - but this just sounds like he's any other regular business. Those that are calling for this step down of that, should perhaps step down them selves...why?, well there're business men/women as well right? seems to be the same grounds (at face value!)
People need to stop bickering amoungst themselves and get on with helping each other - Open Source for the win!
Enjoy
Hubby.
I think you will find that the only people moaning about the royals expendature are the government and aristocracy who want more tax or are jealous of their wealth.
No one really cares to be honest. As a lay peasant I understand that they are royalty and are not generally not accountable to us (unless there is a peasants revolt). Why do I care that Prince Charles spends a gazillion pounds on ridiculous splendour?
I am more interested in Tony Blair's expendature. Cars, houses, his wifes money making schemes all roll together to give the impression of somone who is abusing his power at the expense of the tax payer...
end of rant.
